Tobacco Products Are Becoming Increasingly Affordable in Bangladesh
This brief is based on a recently published research paper examining affordability trends of cigarettes, bidis and smokeless tobacco products in Bangladesh, which is a country that graduated from low-income to lower middle-income status in 2015. This policy brief discusses the importance of increasing the prices of tobacco products through higher taxes in order to reduce tobacco use. In addition, the key challenge of the affordability of tobacco products, especially in Bangladesh, is examined.
