The Bangladesh Cigarette Tax Simulation Model (BDTaXSiM): A Practitioner’s Guide
This Technical Note was written by the Institute of Health Economics (IHE) in Bangladesh. The technical note adapts the World Health Organization's TaXSim model to the cigarette market and tax system in Bangladesh. The researchers provide a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to the model for economists. This model assesses the health and economic effects of different tobacco tax policies by estimating tax revenue, industry revenue, and domestic sales of cigarettes compared to a baseline scenario. Using these findings, more effective, evidence-based tobacco tax policies can be implemented by policy makers in Bangladesh.
This Technical Note explains the model used in Bangladesh: Raising Tobacco Taxes in FY 2022-2023.
