Alcohol and Sugary Drink Taxation (Presentation)

This presentation was given by Frank J. Chaloupka at the Latin American Network on Tobacco Tax Policy for Tobacco Control on February 7, 2018, in Washington DC. The focus of this presentation was on alcohol and sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) taxes and their effect on prices, consumption, diet and weight. Rationale for SSB and alcohol taxes was also discussed, as well as the current status of these taxes worldwide, opposing arguments, and a review of recent research regarding the effects of the taxes on employment.
