Suriname scores better than the average scores of countries in its region and income group, and higher than the global average, yet there is ample room for improvement relative to top performing countries.

Suriname scores poorly in affordability change and tax share, and in the mid-range in cigarette price and tax structure. It would greatly benefit from reducing the cigarette affordability, increasing the tax share of price, higher cigarette prices, and improving the tax structure.
Scores Over Time
Suriname's overall score increased from 2014 to 2018, then it decreased. The decrease in 2022 was due to a significant decrease in the affordability change score although there was an increase in the tax share score.
