Nicaragua scores well in tax share and tax structure but scores poorly in affordability change, and in the mid-range in cigarette price. It would greatly benefit from reducing the cigarette affordability and higher cigarette prices.
Scores Over Time
Nicaragua's overall score increased from 2016 to 2022. In that time, the tax share of price increased, the cigarette price increased, and the tax structure became more effective. However, there was a failure to reduce the cigarette affordability over time.
