Kenya scores better than the average scores of countries in its region and income group, and higher than the global average, yet there is ample room for improvement relative to top performing countries.

Kenya scores well in affordability change but scores poorly in tax share and tax structure, and in the mid-range in cigarette price. It would greatly benefit from increasing the tax share of price, improving the tax structure, and higher cigarette prices.
Scores Over Time
Kenya's overall score increased from 2018 to 2022 due to a sharp increase in the affordability change and the cigarette price scores. But there was a decrease in the tax share score in 2022.
