Iran (Islamic Republic of) scores poorly in cigarette price, affordability change, tax share, and tax structure. It would greatly benefit from higher cigarette prices, reducing the cigarette affordability, increasing the tax share of price, and improving the tax structure.
Scores Over Time
Iran's overall score fluctuated between 2014 and 2020 with a reduction in 2022. The decrease was largely contributed by a sharp drop in the affordability change score. There was also a decrease in the tax structure and the cigarette price scores with a failure to improve the tax share of price.
