India scores poorly in affordability change, tax share and tax structure, and in the mid-range in cigarette price. It would greatly benefit from reducing the cigarette affordability, increasing the tax share of price, improving the tax structure, and higher cigarette prices.
Scores Over Time
India's overall score decreased from 2016 to 2022 due to a sharp decrease in the affordability change score in 2018 and a reduction in the cigarette price score in 2022 although there was an improvement in the tax share score over time.
