Chile scores better than the average scores of countries in its region and income group, and higher than the global average, yet there is ample room for improvement relative to top performing countries.

Chile scores well in tax share but scores poorly in affordability change, and in the mid-range in cigarette price and tax structure. It would greatly benefit from reducing the cigarette affordability, higher cigarette prices, and improving the tax structure.
Scores Over Time
Chile's overall score increased from 2014 to 2020. Then the score declined in 2022, largely due to a sharp drop in the affordability change score.
