Bahrain scores higher than the average score of countries in its region and the global average, but below countries in its income group and top performers. It would benefit from some improvements to its cigarette tax system.

Bahrain scores well in cigarette price but scores poorly in affordability change and tax structure, and in the mid-range in tax share. It would greatly benefit from reducing the cigarette affordability, improving the tax structure, and increasing the tax share of price.
Scores Over Time
Bahrain's overall score increased significantly in 2018 with a slight decrease in 2020. The scores decreased again in 2022 due to a significant reduction in the affordability change score. Other component scores remained unchanged in 2022.
