This policy brief was produced by the research team at the Institute of Economic Sciences (IES). The purpose of this policy brief is to discuss the research from seven Southeastern European countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia), which suggests that there is a significant potential for accelerating the increase of excise duties to reduce the negative effects of tobacco consumption on public health and the economy.
