Excises on Tobacco Products- Effective Instrument for Reducing Prevalence of Smoking

Smoking prevalence in Croatia remains among the highest in Europe; however, higher tobacco taxes through higher prices have been shown to reduce tobacco consumption. This policy brief synthesizes the results of a study conducted by the Faculty of Economics Split, which provides opportunities to improve tax policy by further increasing excise duties on tobacco products. Additionally, the recommendations based on the evidence were discussed.
