Spotlight on Southeastern Europe

Tobacconomics is hosting a series of webinars to discuss the findings of the newly released Cigarette Tax Scorecard.

Cigarette Tax Scorecard

The first edition of the Tobacconomics Cigarette Tax Scorecard, released in December of 2020, grades countries' cigarette tax policies on a five-point scale, using four components.

Although Southeastern Europe is performing better than the global average, there is variation across the region and room for improvement in each of the components. Dr. Frank Chaloupka, the lead author of the Scorecard, will present findings from select SEE countries during the webinar.

Think Tank Research from the SEE Region

Tobacconomics think tank partners will share the results of the recently-conducted Survey on Tobacco Consumption in Southeastern Europe, which finds that adult tobacco use in the region is very high- an average of 38%. Researchers from the think tanks will present country results, including analysis on both tobacco use, attitudes, and tax evasion and avoidance.
